My goal is to create a safe space where you can feel comfortable exploring your thoughts, feelings and life situations. I will help you identify and understand emotional and behavioral patterns that may not be working, and then guide you to develop new avenues for thriving in relationships with yourself and others. With compassion and sincerity, I work with each individual to help you build on your strengths, learn new skills, and attain the growth and change you are committed to accomplishing.
theoretical approach to therapy and change:
I draw from a variety of approaches to therapy that are custom to your needs and life experiences. I use a person-centered approach that is strengths-based with everyone, and I add in cognitive behavioral therapy and acceptance and commitment approaches as indicated. You are a unique individual and deserve an approach that is tailored to you, and I can provide you with this.
Experience and Training:
My experience working in therapy and the mental health field has been varied and has given me a great base for empathy and understanding. I have worked in hospice doing bereavement counseling, worked with substance abuse and addictions, and also with people with serious and persistent mental illness. My experience doing clinical supervision and management have also contributed to my perspectives and understanding of work stress. I have specific training in Mindfulness, which I use when working with anxiety, depression, as well as day-to-day stressors.
Originally from New Jersey, I never felt that state was a good fit for me. Within a very short time of moving here, Colorado felt like home. When I’m not working, I enjoy being outdoors and exploring this beautiful state with my family and our rescue dog. At the beginning of my career, I worked in finance and insurance which were great opportunities in my life, but I always felt a pull toward becoming a therapist. My own therapist at the time was huge support, as I came to my decision to go to graduate school. I worked as an academic advisor at the college while completing my graduate degree which was a great start to helping others.
