therapist/Clinical Social Worker
I specialize in working with caregivers to relieve their stress, treating trauma, and with women who have experienced birth trauma, miscarriage or pregnancy loss, and perinatal mood disorders. So many of us suffer these challenges in silence, not knowing how traumatic these issues or tragedies are for women. My hope is to help you process, grieve, understand and eventually find a bit of acceptance, free from the guilt that unsettles so many women and mothers. Because of my own life experiences in these areas, I constantly work at creating an atmosphere for you of safety and light.
Theoretical Approach to therapy and Change:
Focusing on the body, mind and spirit connection, we will explore paths to help fill any of those empty voids in your soul, with the light that is already within you. All of your needs and wants as a person are an important part of your counseling journey, and I make sure to address you as an entire person. I am trained in Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing (EMDR), and I use this to help you process your trauma. I also tend to be strengths-based, and use cognitive behavioral therapy to treat anxiety and depression. My grief training and experience will help you process your grief. I vary my approach based on what you need at any specific time during our sessions.
Experience and Training:
I have worked in the mental health field for over 10 years, in multiple settings with multiple different populations. I have specific training in Motivational Interviewing, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), and am trained in EMDR. EMDR is my treatment of choice for trauma or traumatic events. I choose CBT as an evidence-based treatment for depression and anxiety, and Motivational Interviewing for anything that requires a change in your life. Over all of this, I come from a strengths-based perspective that looks at the unique strengths and resiliencies of you as a person.
I make my home in the foothills with my family including various animals and my two kids. I find peace in nature and the slower pace of life. My extended family remains in northern Minnesota, where I grew up on a farm, although I now call Colorado home. I became a social worker/therapist because of my passion for helping others in all walks of life. My clients continue to inspire and challenge me everyday to live a more fulfilling life.
