who I work with:

I help adults and couples navigate relationship conflict, substance use, and anxiety to build stronger communication and healthier coping strategies so they can feel connected about the life they want.

Maybe you and your partner are caught in the same arguments on repeat and no matter how the conversation starts, it ends in the same place. The connection that once came easily feels strained and you are not sure whether you are growing apart or just stuck. Sometimes substance use is part of the picture too, quietly reshaping the dynamic between you in ways that are hard to talk about and even harder to fix.

It might be your own substance use or anxiety that has started to feel like it is running the show. Maybe even a partner's or family member's struggles that are pulling everything off course. Either way, you have been holding it together on the outside while something important on the inside is asking for attention.
Whatever brings you here, you are someone who wants in-person connection during therapy. You want to sit across from someone in the same room to be seen and supported in your vulnerable moments.

If that sounds like you, I can help.
how therapy with me can help you:

Because I work exclusively in-person, the connection we build in the therapy room is crucial to our time together. I enjoy bringing warmth and even a little humor to our conversations, because real change tends to happen when you feel comfortable enough to be honest, not just when things feel heavy. At the same time, I am direct. Therapy with me is about moving forward and making real progress toward your goals.
It means getting to the root of what is driving your anxiety or substance use, understanding how it is affecting your closest relationships, and developing tools to manage it differently. For couples, it means learning to actually hear each other again, interrupting the patterns that keep you stuck, and rebuilding trust and communication that holds up under pressure. Whether alcohol, anxiety, or years of emotional distance have pulled you apart, we will tackle the hard stuff together.
Tom works with adults in-person at our Englewood, CO office.

about me:

As a Licensed Professional Counselor and Licensed Addictions Counselor, I have worked in the Denver-Metro area for over 34 years in a variety of settings including community-based mental health and substance abuse treatment agencies, and outpatient settings. Specializing in couples and relationship therapy, I am trained in Gottman Method Couples Therapy and often pull from other theoretical perspectives in my couples work. I am also trained in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), certified in Dialectical Behavioral Treatment (DBT), and utilize Motivational Interviewing and Solution Focused Brief Therapy as additional approaches.

My wife and I love traveling, especially to Europe, learning about the evolution of Western Civilization and philosophy. We are intensely curious people, and we have benefited from understanding how others live around the world through the centuries - all of which contributes to how I work with people. I enjoy walking my dogs, hiking, golf, and spending time with family, including my adult children, and friends.
