Meet our DBT Group Facilitators:
Hello! We are Frankie Washofsky and Tom Henry, therapists and experienced group facilitators who are passionate about helping people navigate their emotions and build more balance in their lives. We know how overwhelming it can feel when emotions seem to take over, and how hard it can be to find tools that actually help in the moment. That’s why we love teaching DBT skills—because they’re practical, powerful, and life-changing. You don’t have to figure this out alone. We’re here to support you every step of the way.
How Does the Group Work?
This is a skills-based group using evidence-based strategies from Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT). Each week, you'll learn and practice tools for managing intense emotions, improving communication, and navigating relationships in a way that honors your needs. We’ll focus on these core DBT concepts: mindfulness, emotional regulation, distress tolerance, and interpersonal effectiveness. You don’t need to have any prior experience with DBT. You just need a willingness to show up, learn, and try something new.
Do I Have To Be In Individual Therapy to Attend This DBT Group?
No it is not a requirement for you to be in individual therapy while attending our DBT Group, but it is highly recommended as you may need additional support in between group sessions. Our group facilitators are happy to coordinate care with external therapists and providers.
What to expect from a DBT Group:
Small Groups:
We keep our group sizes small, and our DBT Group will have between 6-8 people per group. We do this so that you can get the most out of your group experience. A small group size also lets you get to know the other group members more deeply.
Closed Group:
Our DBT Group is not designed as a drop-in group. Every week you will see the same group members in your group. We believe this helps to facilitate more meaningful connections amongst members, which helps you feel less alone.
Meets Weekly:
This DBT Group offers 3 different 8-week modules. The group meets weekly for 90 minutes for 8 weeks, with a 2 week break in between modules. You do NOT have to attend each of the 3 modules, but the modules are all designed to connect to each other. If you choose to attend all three 8-week modules, the entire duration of this group is 4 months.
Skills-Based Group:
Our group facilitators strive to maintain a positive and supportive group atmosphere for everyone in our DBT group. Each week you will learn different skills and techniques, and will discuss how they worked for you with others within the group. You will get support and guidance for applying the skills to your unique situation.
In-Person Group:
This group is an in-person group at our Englewood-based office. As this group is so heavily focused on the learning and practicing of skills between people inside and outside of the group, the group will meet in-person in order to get the most benefits and foster the strongest sense of cohesion. If you are interested in the group but are unable to attend in person, please still reach out as we may offer virtual groups in the future.

unsure if A DBT group can help?
How can you know if a DBT group will help when it’s hard to be around other people? For sure groups can be intimidating and anxiety-provoking, that feeling is normal. Meeting a bunch of people you don't know can definitely rev up your engine! The thing is, every other person who is joining this group likely feels the same way. Managing your anxiety about the group fits well into the group topics of distress tolerance and emotion regulation. Our trained facilitators strive to make the group a safe space for everyone.
Research shows that group counseling is as effective as individual counseling for a variety of issues, including ADHD. We've even written articles on this. Read our blog 3 Ways Group Counseling Can Improve Your Relationships.
You may still be hesitant to join our DBT Group, or unsure how this group can help you. If so, you can contact us for a free 20 minute phone consultation. Our caring Scheduling Coordinator will work with you to determine if this group is the best fit for you or if individual counseling may also be recommended.
