What to Expect from Therapy at Catalyss Counseling

Updated: Aug 8, 2022

Making the decision to come to therapy can be difficult, even scary, for many people. Knowing what to expect before, during and after the therapy process may help ease your fears or anxiety about coming in to talk to someone you've never met before. At Catalyss Counseling, we strive to provide you with an exceptional experience from start to finish, because we know how difficult coming to therapy is.

Value 1: Professional Care

One of our values at Catalyss Counseling is Professional Care. We offer a professional experience for each of our clients from start to finish. This means that you will always know who you are meeting with, when you are meeting with them, and know what to expect from your therapist. We hold ourselves to a high standard of customer satisfaction which helps to create positive therapeutic outcomes.

Value 2: Experienced Therapists

Another value that we hold at Catalyss Counseling is that all of our therapists are licensed in the state of Colorado, meaning they have a Master's Degree in a counseling or social work field and have two years of supervised post-graduate experience. In addition, our therapists have at least 2 years post-licensure experience during which they have honed their skills and specializations.

Value 3: Specializations

Catalyss Counseling offers a variety of specializations to choose from, including anxiety, grief and trauma, among others. We match you with a therapist that can best meet your needs and who has the specialized training and experience in your area of treatment.

Value 4: Convenience

We strive to offer a variety of appointment options for you, including daytime, weeknight and weekend appointments, to accommodate your busy schedule. In addition, our office is conveniently located in Englewood in a professional office building with plenty of lit, safe parking.

Value 5: Community

Our last value at Catalyss Counseling is that we coordinate your treatment with any/all community providers that you wish, with your written permission. We believe in coordinating care with your medical team, but also understand your desire for confidentiality and will never release your records without your consent.

Intake Process

We provide a smooth, high-quality intake process to help dispel your fears prior to coming in for therapy. When you're ready for therapy and you contact us by phone, email, or website contact form, you can expect to get an answer within 24 hours, often sooner, to set up an initial free 20 minute phone consultation. During this consultation call, we will obtain some basic information from you in order to match you with the best therapist to meet your needs. You'll have a chance to ask any questions you have, and we will work together to find an appointment that works best for you. If you do choose to not pursue therapy at Catalyss Counseling, we will do our best to provide you with community referrals that can meet your needs.

After you schedule an appointment, you will be sent a Welcome email with instructions on how to access our Client Portal and complete New Client Paperwork prior to your appointment date. There will also be directions on how to get to our office along with confirmation of your appointment time/date. We will send you an automated text reminder of your initial intake evaluation (and all future therapy appointments) to help you remember your appointments with us.

Intake Evaluation

During your initial intake evaluation, you and your therapist will briefly review your intake paperwork and complete any additional screenings and a financial form. We will review our no-show/cancellation policy with you and you will be able to ask any questions that you have. Then your therapist will complete an intake evaluation, during which she will ask you many questions about your symptoms, your history, and your family/social situation. At the conclusion of the intake evaluation, your therapist will review the intake and findings, and jointly you will determine a course of treatment.

Ongoing Therapy

At the second appointment, you and your therapist will work together to come up with treatment goals for therapy along with the frequency of your sessions. We recommend you meet every 1-2 weeks with your therapist for the first 2 months or so in order to get to know each other, develop rapport, and work on reaching your treatment goals. When you start therapy you are usually highly motivated and we want to take advantage of that motivation to make some meaningful change and progress towards your goals.

Termination of Therapy

Once your "active" phase of therapy is ending, you and your therapist may decide together to lessen the frequency of your sessions. And once your treatment goals are met, you can decide to either enter into our "maintenance" stage of therapy where you come in once per month for a check-in/maintenance care, or disengage from therapy altogether, called termination. Once you terminate therapy with Catalyss Counseling, you are always welcome to return to therapy with us at anytime.

The Value of Therapy

Therapy and lasting change take time and commitment. While therapy isn’t often easy, you get out of it what you put in. If you come in with honesty, trust in the process, and a willingness to change, you can expect to see lasting results.
